Beginning in the Early 2000's the late Rick Chin and his closest friends noticed that the modelbuilding hobby had become somewhat serious. A group of Grumpy Old Model Builders so to speak. Rick had opened up his shop each month to all who wished to attend where having fun was the primary goal. The emphasis was the return to the model building hobby's sharing, enthusiasm and friendship; forgotten from our youth. As the group of friends grew, so to did the idea of "instead of a model contest," there should be a model celebration. The Gombs Modelfest was born. An annual public show that celebrates the world of scale models and figures. Taking place in Calgary, Alberta, this show aims to spread the joys of the hobby and serves as a meet-up for new and long-time enthusiasts. Get in touch with our team today to learn more.

The GOMBS Modelfest is put together by builder for builders and has no hosting club. All members of the modelling community get to contribute to the show and give a pat on the back to one of their fellow modelers by picking an award or coming up with their own idea for one. Each award sponsored is $25/award, can be paid at the show (or in advance) and given out to the model of the sponsor's choosing. In 2023 we had 52 sponsored awards. Whether you are a returning sponsor or new to it, the Sponsored Awards page lists the awards and sponsors from the last few years. As always new ideas are welcome with extra street credit given for originality and humor. To sponsor an award, simply contact us and let us know which awards or ideas you would like to sponsor.
